Poem: Remember and Sleep

Hello there Beloved of the Ancient of Days

What troubles do you bear that keep you still awake?

Lay down those anxious thoughts, take your rest now once again.

Come and hear a story, as to sleep you settle in.

What story shall we tell tonight? Shall we tell of battles won?

Or the great love of the Father who gave His only Son.

Perhaps we should tell of the Exodus, or when the sea was split in two,

Lest you should forget that He did the same for you.

What story shall we tell tonight? Shall we tell of sparrows fed?

Perhaps that would ease the worries that are dancing in your head.

Shall we tell of sheep and Shepherd dear, or pastures made of green?

Surely that will help you rest, and give you pleasant dreams.

Maybe from the Shepherd’s hand you long to come and eat,

Or perhaps you need a giant slain dead before your feet.

And it could be, tired friend, that it’s simple truth you need.

Perhaps you need reminding that Jesus made you free.

But enough of all this chatter, now it’s time to go to bed,

As you imagine Jesus bending to kiss you on the head.

Let his peace transcend all things, drying tears that you may weep

And His peace will surely keep you, as in trust you fall asleep.

Friends, God made us for peace. He promises to keep watch over us as we sleep. It is because of Jesus and His promises that we can sleep in peace. You have nothing to fear. Do not deny yourself the rest you need. He made you to thrive, and part of that is taking rest. Be still. May the Lord go before you in all things, and quiet your fears.

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8).

“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep” (Psalm 127:2).

With Very Great Love,

Lady Redeemed.
