Beloved of the Savior dear, can you not fall asleep?
Come now, and take your rest, and let Him whisper peace.
For He has not forgotten you, or the sorrow that you bear,
And He promised He would come to you, and give you comfort there.
And pain, it shall not always be, nor tears forever flow.
And one day chains shall lose their grip in the freedom He bestows.
Come now child, lift up your head, and be you not cast down.
For your suff’ring is made glory and your brokenness a crown.
Or know you not the heart of God for beggars such as this?
For he looks upon the needy, and bends their heads to kiss.
And what of all your fears dear heart? Shall their torment always be?
Surely not, for Jesus is leaning near to thee.
The Prince of Peace has come to you…He’s come to set you free…
And for every child He ransoms, they shall be free indeed.
Redeemed and ransomed from their chains, no matter what has bound,
The precious name of Jesus, to every slave the sweetest sound.
And have you yet forgotten that His heart towards you is kind?
His thoughts towards you are peace, and healing of the mind.
And it matters not the wounds that have come throughout the years…
He binds up the brokenhearted, and bottles up their tears.
And should you find yourself unable to even rise and stand
The King himself has promised He will hold to your right hand.
Beloved, do not be deceived, believe not the clever lies.
Jesus is the Master fair, and the Redeemer of your life.
And should you need a refuge you can run to Him and hide
Then after you have rested there, He will teach you how to fight.
Surely doubts will come again, and the fears will rise up too,
But you’ve already overcome them…He’s already rescued you.
No longer are you bound, or imprisoned…or ashamed.
You’ve been rescued, and redeemed, and given a new name.
Dear Readers, this poem is much like my last poem “The Promise” in which I speak the truth of God to myself and my situation. The enemy works off of lies. He was a liar from the beginning, always has been, and always will be. It is these clever lies that penetrate our hearts and keep us bound, even after Jesus has already redeemed us. He tells us “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” (Galatians 5:1). You see this frequently with addiction, victims of trauma, or even members of the church who get entangled in that self-righteous spirit of legalism. The victory of Jesus Christ on the cross was enough to free us from everything that would entangle us. What Jesus did for us was not just saving us from eternity without Him…He gave us the power to overcome everything that the enemy would hurl at us, and live in freedom and victory over the things that once bound us, whether by fault our own or not. Consider this a soothing of your heart, but also a declaration of your freedom in Christ, whereby we are able to fight.
